Literary Review

The literary review guide provided by the University of Wisconsin-Madison gives us the following suggestions:

  • the format of literature review may vary depending on the peculiarities of the assignment and subject
  • in the introduction one should identify the topic, thus providing the context for reviewing, as well as to point the overall trends of the matter and the writer's reason for the analysis
  • the body should include group research studies, a summary of individual studies, have strong "umbrella" sentences at beginnings of paragraphs, "signposts" throughout, and brief "so what" summary sentences at intermediate points
  • the conclusion should include the summarizations of major contributions of significant studies to the topic, maintaining the focus established in the introduction,  and point out major methodological flaws, and areas or issues pertinent to future study
  • it is useful to conclude by providing some insight into the relationship between the central topic of the literature review and a larger area of study

  1. Nina,

I'm sorry but where is your Literature Review? This is one of the required works for you to receive a credit test for this course. Have you had some problems writing it or some technical problems?

  2. Also, there is a difference b/w a "literary" and "literature" review: the former refers to the reviews of literary worsks both fiction and non-fiction, while the latter to the reviews similar to the one you had to write for this course.
